The questions everyone asks first.

If your question isn't here, get in touch — I'd rather answer it properly than leave you guessing.

Q01 How much should a small business website cost in NZ? +
Most agencies charge $3,000–$10,000 upfront plus $50–$400/month for hosting and maintenance. DIY builders like Wix or Squarespace run $20–$50/month but you're building it yourself. We charge $149/month — no upfront cost — for a custom-built site with hosting, SEO, and ongoing support included. For a Dunedin small business, that's a proper site for less than a flat white a day.
Q02 Why a monthly subscription instead of buying outright? +
Because a website isn't a thing you buy once. It needs hosting, security updates, content changes, SEO attention, and someone to call when something's not right. The subscription means all of that is covered — you're never stuck with a site that slowly rots because nobody's looking after it.
Q03 Do I own the website? +
Yes. The design, the content, the domain — all yours. If you leave, we transfer everything. Nothing to ransom, nothing to re-license.
Q04 What happens if I cancel? +
After the initial 3-month minimum, you can cancel with 30 days' notice. We'll hand over your domain, your content, and your site code. No exit fee, no hostage situation. Your site lives in its own repository — any developer can pick it up.
Q05 Do I need hosting? +
No. Hosting is included in your monthly fee. Your site runs on Cloudflare's global network, the same infrastructure behind Discord and Shopify. We handle all of it.
Q06 How long does it take? +
Usually 5–10 working days from our first meeting to a live site. You send us your content and photos, we build and refine, and you review before anything goes live. Most of the time is waiting on content from you, not us building.
Q07 Will you do Google Business Profile setup? +
Yes. GBP setup and monthly management is included. We'll set up your profile, add your services, optimise your categories, and post weekly updates. For most Dunedin businesses, your Google Business Profile is the single biggest lever for being found locally.
Q08 What if I already have a domain? +
Keep it. We'll guide you through pointing it to your new site. Takes 10 minutes.
Q09 What if I don't have a domain yet? +
We'll help you pick one and walk you through buying it. You'll own it directly — we don't put it in our name.
Q10 How do updates work? +
Small stuff (hours, services, staff, photos) — you can do it yourself in the dashboard, or email us and we'll do it. Usually live within a few hours.
Q11 How many edits per month? +
No fixed limit. Fair use applies — if you're sending 40 edit requests a week, we'll have a chat. For a normal small business, included edits cover everything you'll ever need.
Q12 What happens to my site if your business shuts down? +
Your site is in your own repository on GitHub, hosted on your own Cloudflare account if you want it that way. If we disappeared tomorrow, your site would keep running, and any web developer could take over. That's deliberate — no vendor lock-in, ever.
Q13 Is there a setup fee? +
No. $0 to start. First payment is on the day your site goes live.
Q14 Do you work with businesses outside Dunedin? +
For now, Dunedin and greater Otago — close enough that we can meet in person when it matters. If you're further afield and interested, get in touch anyway; we can figure it out.
